Recommended for all pregnant women, especially those over 35 years. Although the scan cannot tell for certain whether your baby is affected, it can help you decide whether or not to have further diagnostic tests.

The NT scan on its own, provides approximately 80% accuracy, Combined blood screening, provides 90 to 95% accuracy.

Nuchal Translucency is a collection of fluid under the skin at the back of a baby's neck. It can be measured using ultrasound when your baby is between 11 and 13⁺⁶ weeks old. All babies have some fluid, but many babies with Down's syndrome have an increased amount.

The Nuchal scan follows the standard NHS protocol and guidelines. All measurements taken include: NT, CRL and FHR.

Please note - no chromosomal markers are examined.

Your results are usually processed within 24 hours with the combined blood screening. Should you wish to only have the scan, your results can be processed on the same day.

The results from the scan measurement and blood screening results are analysed for individual risk factor. The result is not definitive but can help you and your family manage your pregnancy accordingly.

Please note: A high risk screening result does not always mean that there is an abnormality and many women still have normal healthy babies. My UltraBaby NT Scan is the first initial pre-screening test. You are then required to take your results back to your midwife/GP to discuss your options.
