Our Gynae clinics are run by an Obs & Gynae Consultant Specialist. All of our Gynae consultations and/or investigative scans will come with a full report and b/w prints. We would recommend that this report is presented to your healthcare provider. Upon a GP referral, a report will be sent directly to your GP.

Some Gynae investigative scans may involve transvaginal/internal scanning.

Gynae scan assessments are designed to address concerns in the following areas:

Emergency Gynae scan - investigate complaints of pelvic pain, abdominal pain or abnormal bleeding.

Menstrual Disorders - women with: Heavy Periods (Menorrhagia); Frequent Periods (Polymenorrhea); Irregular Periods (Oligomenorrhea); Painful Periods (Dismenorrhoea); Bleeding after Intercourse (Post-coital).

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - Multiple follicles/cysts in the ovaries - Clinical signs include irregular periods, long menstrual cycles, acne, excess body hair, overweight &/or infertility.

Ovarian Cysts - A cyst is a sac filled with fluid and can remain dormant, especially in younger women. Occasionally due to ovarian functions, these will occur and require treatment upon further investigation. Generally, if a cyst is over 5cm diameter &/or present towards menopause, complications may occur. This scan determines if a cyst exists, type of cyst and number of cysts.

Follicle Tracking - Performed from 7 to 9 days of menstrual cycle to aid fertility treatment.

Fibroids - Benign tumours (non-cancerous) of the womb muscle. These are commonly found in women of reproductive age. There are 4 types of fibroids, dependent on the position:

Intramural - wall of womb (most common)

Subserosal - outside womb wall

Sub mucosal - found in muscle beneath inner lining of womb wall

Cervical - wall of the cervix (womb neck)

Endometriosis - Condition where cells that are traditionally located within the womb cavity is located outside.

Pelvic Pain - Reassurance scan to investigate acute/chronic pain of the pelvis, which can be common in women of any age. Confirms if there are any underlying problems.

Prolapse - mainly effects elderly women where the ligaments and supporting tissue of the pelvis stretch and weaken over the years, especially after childbirth. In severe cases a lump can be noticed protruding through entrance of the vagina. Prolapse can involve either vagina front wall (including bladder) or back wall (including bowel) or cervix & uterus.

Upper Abdomen - gallbladder, liver, bile ducts, pancreas, kidneys and spleen, also abdominal aorta.

Menopause - the permanent cessation of reproductive fertility some time before the end of the natural lifespan. Common symptoms include: changes to menstrual cycle, hot flushes, night sweats, irritability, vaginal dryness, itching or discomfort.
